AVG Free Edition 2012 12.0 Build 1809a4504

Don't be afraid, you're not the only one planning to switch to a freeware antivirus solution. And no, despite all the rumors, using a free application doesn't necessarily mean that you're less protected that in the case of using a paid tool. Anyway, the application you're about to read about deserves all the praises.

AVG Free Edition is one of the few freeware antivirus applications that should really be taken into consideration when thinking about a freeware software to protect your data. Truth is, it only provides basic protection, but this should be enough in case you're not an avid computer user that downloads tons of files from the Internet.

The only issue we've encountered during the setup process was that annoying attempt to change the default search engine to Yahoo, which is why the application has been flagged as adware here on Softpedia. Not to mention that the installation kit wants to deploy the AVG Security Toolbar on your computer

The interface is more than pleasant, although we must agree that we wouldn't expected to see so many options included in a freeware solution. It's a good thing after all and we'd always go for an application that allows us to configure every single function hidden under the hood.

The scanning process is really fast and thanks to the so-called Smart Scanning it can even allow you to work on the computer without affecting performance too much. Basically, this particular function starts a scanning process when the computer is idling and switches to a low-priority mode once it detect some activity.

As a conclusion, stop wasting your time searching for an efficient antivirus solution, you've just found it. AVG is perfect for those who don't want to invest their money in an antivirus application and want an easy to use utility with more than decent functionality.
